Most people who learn English have the same goal – they want to be able to communicate and have conversations with a wide range of people in English.
There are three types of language – “Textbook English”, “Written English” and “Real English”.
If your goal is to become better at speaking with real people, you have to forget for a while about the first two types of English. In fact the first type - textbook English you must forget forever. Never study a single, individual word. Native speakers do not learn English by remembering single words.
Native speakers learn phrases. Put away your grammar books and textbooks. Grammar rules teach you to think about English; we want you to speak naturally -- without thinking!
Here are some of the topics covered by the course: Vocabulary, Communicating with ease both interpersonal and formal, Accent Neutralization and lots more. Let Amazing-English show you how!
How many words does the English language contain?
In December 2010 a joint Harvard/Google study found English to contain 1,022,000 words and to expand at the rate of 8,500 words per year. The findings came from a computer analysis of 5,195,769 digitized books.
Others have estimated a rate of growth of 25,000 words each year. English vocabulary has changed considerably over the centuries.
Due to the assimilation of words from many other languages throughout history, modern English has not only assimilated words from other European languages but also from languages of Indian, African, and Arabic origin. English also easily accepts technical terms into common usage and often imports new words and phrases.
In addition; slang often provides new meanings for old words and phrases. A distinction however needs to be made between formal forms of English and contemporary usage.
Let Amazing-English introduce you to a new world of English Vocabulary.
